I had to drag myself out of bed this morning. It's cold and rainy and really gloomy. I was in the middle of a good dream (which flitted away as soon as I woke up) and I'm pretty sure there's not any good reason to be up and at 'em.
Being the responsible adult that I am, I got up anyway and am trying to figure out what this week holds in the way of chores, classes, fun, duty and the unknown. The end of this week will be epic as a few of us on my Stampin'UP! downline team travel to Salt Lake City for OnStage! They always share lots of news with us as well as the new Annual Catalog! I'm very excited to see what's in there and the big reveal of the new 2019-2021 In-Colors! I've been dreaming about those for weeks now!
Speaking of dreams, I have a fun set to share today. I am not taking the time to do any research here, but I know this image as a Native American "dream catcher". I grew up in western South Dakota which is one of the epicenters of the Plains Indian history, culture and art. I have seen many dream catchers in stores and it's a popular motif. I knew I could have some fun with this set!
This first card features the wonderful die cut feathers in random colors. I purposely didn't make an even number of colors to make it symmetrical. I wanted it to look random. The stamped "dream catcher" image on the background is a great size. The word "dream" is one of the framelits included in the set.
For this second card, I wanted to show off another framelit, the dream catcher one. It's a tad smaller than the stamped image but is a fun representation. There is also a die cut circle and intricate woven inner piece that I used on this card. It's a little hard to see it, but I used Blackberry Bliss card stock for the large circle and Rich Razzleberry for the dream catcher. You might recognize the tassel from a couple of years ago, the "Eastern Beauty" bundle. I still have some extras and use them when I need an accent in one of those colors! My background paper is from the super versatile Wood Textures Designer Series Paper.
This was actually the first card I tried. I had a bunch of banner pieces from a retired kit that I wanted to use up on some cards and this Bermuda Bay stripe was one of them. On this card, you can see the stamped feathers that come in this stamp set. I think next time, I would add some bling somewhere to spice this card up a little bit. It looks a bit blah to me now!
It's fun to play with some of the sets that don't get a lot of attention on Pinterest, blogs or even from Stampin'Up! This bundle definitely meets a certain design theme and isn't everyone's cup of tea but it did bring back good memories of South Dakota for me.
