There is a lot of news in the Stampin'Up! world today. I want to share that with you but first, I know the main reason you check out my blog is to see cards and ideas! I don't have any knowledge of what is retiring this year as far as stamps and tools, but it recently occurred to me there are a few sets that I've had for a couple of years now that I have ignored, big time! I'm going to dedicate some blog posts to my long lost loves for a couple of weeks here!
One set I absolutely had to have when it first came out was the Jar of Love bundle! I love canning jars and personally own almost 50 of them, mostly obtained from my husband's grandma! She was so thrilled that we like antiques and gladly took them off her hands to treasure ourselves. Forty years later, we still have them and they are part of our decor.
The stamp set featuring the canning jars is just plain fun. There are three different sizes of jars and several other things to decorate them including ribbon and bow stamps, flowers, jar lids and even a fish! Yesterday, I grabbed this bundle and had some time getting reacquainted with it - so fun!
The biggest decision you have to make is what to stamp your jars with and what card stock/paper to use. It works to make clear ones, opaque ones and even cut out ones as you'll see. In this card, I used Gray Granite card stock and ink to make the jars. I put them on a pretty gingham tablecloth (using a retired border punch) and then filled the center one with flowers from the stamp set. It's a little tricky to see, but my center jar is popped up on dimensionals. This is a very favorite color scheme of mine incorporating blue and white with some yellow.
For this card, I actually stamped the jar on white card stock to create a see-through illusion. I kept that part simple as I wanted to focus on the ribbon band around the jar and the sentiment. I tried to repeat the same ribbon idea, same color, on the card background after I had embossed it. The jewels are some of our "Faceted Dots".
Finally, I couldn't resist trying to use the goldfish included in this stamp set and the very puny "Best Fishes" for a sentiment! I cut out the interior of the jar with the die included in the set and then added some fishes on my wavy background. I like this card a lot - silly but cute!
If you love canning jars and don't have this set, I would get it before it's gone. I don't know if it is retiring, but usually when a set has been in 2-3 catalogs, it will be going away soon. We will have the complete retiring list available to us after April 15th so I'll update you then on all the details. The only things that will sell out ASAP are the In-Color related card stock and ink. Stamps and bundles usually hang around for awhile but there have been some shortages with dies so keep an eye out on that news.
As for the big announcements from Stampin'Up! today, they have announced that in the 2019-2020 Annual catalog, we will not be offering the Stampin' Trimmer or the Big Shot anymore. They are many good and detailed reasons why but I wanted to get the word out there. For the time being, you can still purchase both or replacement parts such as blades and acrylic pads. I will publish a post with all the pertinent information as soon as I can. I have a couple of classes today but then the rest of the week is pretty open and good for some thoughtful comments on these new developments. Don't panic, it's not the apocalypse ;)
