Wow... it's cold! I always prefer cold over hot but this is testing me a little bit too much this morning! I am so grateful my furnace is working and the time I have to spend outdoors is minimal today. It was very hard to get out of a warm bed!
I'm looking forward to another week of blogging and sharing some of my ideas and experiments with new Stampin' Up! products. I am almost always in the mood to craft so let's get this week going! The first bundle I want to share is called "Sweetest Thing" and it features a candy motif. I've actually been to old time candy stores where the candy is lined up so colorfully in jars and you start drooling at the mere prospect of which delicacy to choose. This set was happy and fun in part because of the colorful Designer Series Paper that coordinates with it, called "How Sweet It Is". These were all of my daughters' favorite colors when they were growing up; bright purple, pink turquoise, green and yellow. It even reminds my of much of my clothing in the 1990's!
I'd like to share some ideas I had and even a video showcasing what I did. Here's the first card:
As you can see, the framelits and stamp set combine in a wonderful candy theme of sweetness. I used the jar stamp and framelit to cut out my candy jar and then used some of the wrapped candy framelits with coordinating colors for the candy. I try to use an embossing folder for my background when I can as newer people to this hobby are always so amazed at the embossing feature on paper! This card capitalized on one of our best new colors, Highland Heather.
This card does a nice job of showing off the entire color scheme in the Designer Series Paper. Again, I stamped candy jars and added some stamped candy and sucker cut outs with coordinating dies. Not only do the sucker and wrapped candy dies cut, they also do an embossing pattern on the paper for extra dimension and texture.
This card features cut outs from the Designer Series Paper directly. Stampin'Up! has been coordinating more DSP designs with framelits in the past couple of years and it really makes sense! This would be a great card for a kid but anyone who loves candy!
I also did some 3-D, non-card projects as I wanted to show how versatile this set is!
This first project decorated one of our fabulous pizza boxes. They are about 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" so perfect for a treat, gift card, jewelry, etc.
My second project used the Window Box die that we have in our annual catalog. You need to make 2 cuts of this die and then assemble. I used our tear tape because I wanted the adhesive to stay "stuck"! Money, gift cards, small gifts or even a small cupcake could fit inside this treasure box!
Lastly, I decorated a small bag made of glassine paper. We had these in the catalog a few years back and I still have a few extra. They are the type of paper bakeries used for their baked goods. This was fun to decorate and could easily hold candy or a small gift.
I did a short video about some of my steps and suggestions. Check it out here:
I hope you get a chance to play with this set some day. You can get one of your own in the online store (link on the right). The theme of candy treats is timeless so that makes the versatility of this bundle even greater!
I'm offering a rookie/newbie class tomorrow at 7 p.m. at my house. Contact me if you would like to come by and try some stamping, see if this is a hobby that suits you well! It will be low key and fun, I promise!
I need to head to the grocery store and get what I need for a crockpot full of soup for a potluck tonight. What are your plans for this week? I hope it involves crafting which feeds our souls in so many ways!
Happy Stampin' and stay warm!
Sarah
